About this Work
In these works, the artist seeks to distract the audience from a direct narrative, though giving slight clues with the diaristic titles that depict her autobiographical standpoint.
About Selin Uyar
Selin Uyar is a contemporary artist living and working in Turkey. In her practice she aims to deconstruct preconceived concepts and meanings, visualised through an abstract language. Selin uses this process to self-reflect, experiment and explore. She views this process as a second chance to take a step back and observe reality from afar. Focusing on decoding experiences and symbolic gestures, she includes an implicit narrative which she defines as the idea of 'auto-censoring'.
The artist uses repetition, transformation and development to defer the ending of the artwork. Provisionality and durational processes enable the consistent flow and flux of construction, deconstruction, deferral and negation. This unravelling of narrative through material languages becomes a gesture, act or performance of “narrativisation”. It is through this use of abstract narrative that she establishes a consistent flow and flux of construction, repetition, transformation and development, which defers the ending of the artwork. Her whole practice revolves around positioning and repositioning “realms” and “fragments” in search of an own voice.
