About this work
The Dolmen Series is a collection of varied edition screen prints in which West employs hand-drawn, digital and open-screen printmaking processes across multiple layers. Captivated by the study of neolithic megalith sites in the UK, the artist depicts standing stones and portal tombs as geological giants, existing in the gentle night of imagined future landscapes.
About Ella West
Ella West is a visual artist living and working in London, UK. She is currently undertaking an MA in Fine Art Media at the Slade School of Art, UCL, after gaining her BA in Fine Art from Falmouth University in 2014. Through a series of collaborations with fellow artist Sophie Glover, West has produced a publication, and delivered workshops. She has also participated in residencies such as The London Summer Intensive at UCL and Camden Arts Centre, and the Kala Art Institute Residency Programme in California, USA. Working within the media of installation, video and print, West is interested in themes of nature, family, failure, symbolism and the body. In the work, the common motif of the rock – or the facsimile of the rock – can shift between signifying the mother, the home, and the bones of the earth.
