About this work
The lustre of metallic colours in this body of work offers an ethereal quality to the overall compositions, suggesting a dream-like state of consciousness. Meanwhile, by reflecting and distorting the viewer and their surrounding environment, the monochromatic sheen of the surfaces of these works aims to establish a dialogue between the unending movement, change and instantaneity of ‘real time’ and the contrastingly ‘frozen gestures' and concept of infinity captured in each embossing.
This series was born from the desire to explore how a gesture operates spatially, in two or three dimensions. The artist’s use of metallic chine-collé seeks to create a parallel between the field of action in three-dimensional space and its translation to the singular plane. Through this unconventional approach to printmaking, Pearson aims to echo the actions and gestures active in his sculptural practice, subverting their impulsive nature through the careful practice of carborundum printmaking.
