About this Work
The View presents a vacant idealism, something so idyllic it becomes ultimately meaningless. There’s a surreal, bored beauty to the shared dream. The faceless figure is a motif within Haynes’ body of work, which she uses as an uncanny framework to evoke within the viewer feelings of both discomfort and familiarity.
About Rosie Haynes
Rosie Haynes is a visual artist living and working in Northamptonshire, UK. She gained her BA in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins. Her practice reflects her ongoing relationship with femininity, pulled between its seductive glamour and its problematic, performative nature. Through her collages, Haynes interrogates the surface of the image, and how the image itself may become the object, often drawing from bygone eras and periods of extreme femininity, especially the 1950s and 1960s.
Haynes is interested in making work that consumes and confuses traditional representations of femininity and of women. Through collage, Haynes processes and reconstitutes these extremes through a playful parody of character and performance. She purposefully harnesses and subverts deeply embedded tropes of popular culture to engage tactically in a dialogue around feminism.
