About this Work
Through these works, Papadopoulos looks to clarify and convey the uncanny state of the subconscious. They offer glimpses into the fiendishness of the mind, revealed once the door to the subconscious has been opened.
About Filippos Papadopoulos
Filippos Papadoulos is a Greek artist living and working in London. He gained his BA in Fine Art from the School of Fine Art Thessaloniki, before completing his MA in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins. His practice explores the bizarre, moving between demons, consciousness and the uncanny.
Papadopoulos’ work approaches inner emptiness and meaninglessness, which he describes as “perfectly adjusted to the modern lifestyle of our godless society”. Jung made this same observation when he had to examine his patients. He asserted that a third of his clients were passing through this societal state based on a general neurosis of our age and current community. Jung explains this social phenomenon as rooted in the rapid progression of natural science, responsible for the opening of Pandora’s box, which was a diversion from the moral code of Christianity at the time. The artist responds to this emptiness, encoding it into his work through form and colour.
