About this work
Tracing Lazarus’s Stem is part of a wider investigation into memory through plants, titled Aloe Vera 3.G, which consists of narrative-oriented work. The work captures the dismembered “body” of the Aloe plant, drawing together myth, vulnerability, and the state of being in-between.
About Hannah Morgan
Hannah Morgan is a multimedia installation artist living and working in London. She is currently undertaking an MA in Sculpture at Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, where she received the Prankerd-Jones Memorial Prize for excellence in academic study. She has recently shown at Saatchi Gallery, London, and participates regularly in research symposiums. Morgan has a background in film, performance and archiving, and is a Visiting Lecturer at Central Saint Martins, UAL.
In her practice, Morgan considers intersecting narratives by creating new material assemblages across film, audio, sculpture and text. In particular, the artist focuses on notions, and stories, of transformation and loss. Through this, she addresses the precarity of selfhood, object, and the natural world. Morgan combines interdisciplinary research, including across biology and archaeology, in this investigation, using this to look at the material world as participatory: marked by how we engage with it. Underpinning her practice are investigations into contamination, collaboration, thresholds, unearthing, preservation, trace, and speculation. In looking at the aftermath of loss within these contexts – be that of death or land – she exposes the slippages between her disciplines, and posits novel, speculative propositions.
