About this Work
Out there is an ongoing project based on a series of paintings created from a fable about
the Chinese philosopher Chuang-tzu, whose main inspiration was the belief that chaos is inherently present within human beings. Kim has been inspired by this notion of chaos, and expresses a visual interpretation of it through the construction of a hole. The goal in this series is to visualise the coexistence of inner and outer worlds, using these unkempt, incomplete and accidental drawings to mirror the artist’s free spirit.
About Hee Jyung Kim
Hee Jyung Kim is currently undertaking an MA in Fine Art at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, after completing her BA in Painting at Incheon Catholic University, South Korea. Recent exhibitions include at Space 9 (solo), Seoul, ASC Gallery, London, and Culture Station Seoul 284, Seoul.
Using drawings as her main medium, Hee Jyung Kim defines herself as a storyteller who hunts for sentiments to express the inner turmoil of the human psyche. She is inspired by every single moment in her daily life, and uses emotions and memories from observations of personal experiences to construct her work. These milieus captured throughout her life are transferred to her own visual language, including drawing, painting, collage and installation.
