About this Work
Under the water is an expression of the moment of consolation felt when looking at flowing water; the freely-drawn, yellow lines representing the waves. For the artist, this reflects the complex observations around her subconscious that she channels into the work, in order to contemplate and decipher them. In doing so, she releases them like running water.
About Hee Jyung Kim
Hee Jyung Kim is currently undertaking an MA in Fine Art at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, after completing her BA in Painting at Incheon Catholic University, South Korea. Recent exhibitions include at Space 9 (solo), Seoul, ASC Gallery, London, and Culture Station Seoul 284, Seoul.
Using drawings as her main medium, Hee Jyung Kim defines herself as a storyteller who hunts for sentiments to express the inner turmoil of the human psyche. She is inspired by every single moment in her daily life, and uses emotions and memories from observations of personal experiences to construct her work. These milieus captured throughout her life are transferred to her own visual language, including drawing, painting, collage and installation.
